The Student Self-Care Movement is BACK!

Monday 28-04-2025 - 12:38

You might remember back in November when we launched our Student Self-Care Movement - a reminder that, through all the pressures of uni life, your wellbeing matters.

Well, as exams and deadlines ramp up, we’re bringing it back for Phase Two. And this time, it’s all about making sure you’re looking after yourself during the exam season.

✨From Wednesday 7 – Thursday 22 May, we’re here to support you with free self-care bags, motivational quotes across campus, and a chance to chat with your Officers whenever you need a friendly face.

🧠A quick throwback to November

Phase 1 of the campaign helped us learn more about what you really need to feel supported. We heard loud and clear that many of you are feeling the weight of heavy workloads, mental health struggles and that a sense of belonging is a big deal. Loads of you told us that uni can feel isolating sometimes, and that you'd love more chances to connect, especially with people of your course.

That feedback is already being used to help shape more course-related events and an extended induction in Term 1.

🚀What's happening in phase 2?

This time round, we’re focusing on supporting you through one of the most intense parts of the academic year – exam and assignment season. With over 34,000 of you submitting work between during May, we know stress levels can skyrocket and it can be hard to have time to look after yourself.

👀So here’s what we’re doing:

  • We'll be giving away 250 self-care goodie bags with assignment and revision essentials✅
  • Your officers will be hosting drop-ins where you can pop by and have a chat
  • Positive messages popping up all around campus. We're manifesting the good vibes for you🧘
  • The 6ft heart is back! Get over to The Union to add your message, read others, and feel the love from the Manchester Met community❤️
  • Not on campus? No stress. We'll be sharing interviews with students across Instagram and TikTok

Everything we’re doing is about helping you feel less alone and more equipped to take care of yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally.

📍Messages around campus

From Wednesday 7 – Friday 23 May, keep an eye out for positive little reminders popping up in some of the busiest parts of campus. You’ll spot them at:

  • Brookes Building entrance
  • Business School entrance
  • Dalton Building entrance
  • Geoffrey Manton Building entrance
  • The Library

These messages are here to remind you to keep going and that the exam season doesn’t last forever. They’ll be easy to spot in our campaign colours and signed off by us personally (a little boost from The Union).

😊If one makes you smile, don’t forget to repost it and tag us on Instagram!

🤔What’s in the bag and where can you get yours?

Earlier this year, we asked you what wellbeing support you’d find helpful during assignment and exam season, and we listened. Inside your self-care bag, you’ll find:

  • Noodles🍜
  • Chewing gum
  • Pens and post-it notes✍️
  • A personal promise note🪷
  • A motivational quote card (pass it on to a friend and spread the care)

Whether it’s a quiet moment to reset or a boost of encouragement, we’ve packed these bags with small things that make a big difference.

You can pick up your free self-care bag in Reception at The Union on the following dates and times:

Can’t make it to a drop-in? No worries! Head up to the Officers’ Office on the second floor of The Union anytime during the campaign period and we’ll make sure you get one.

💛You’ve got this

Whether you're powering through revision, tackling your final essays, or just trying to stay afloat, know that we're with you every step of the way. Take a moment, take a breath, and make sure you’re looking after yourself.

Remember: you're capable of anything you put your mind to.
