Mature students - Welcome is for you too!
Welcome is the biggest week of every student’s year – no matter your year of study, and The Union hasn’t forgotten about those of you who might not be all about the parties and the club nights.
There’s loads of stuff happening throughout Welcome that caters to all students at Manchester Met, from first years to postgrads, students with children and mature students.
We’ve put together this guide for those of you who still want to get involved, but maybe on a more relaxed scale. Mature students, this one’s for you.
When?

We know most of you mature students won’t be living in halls with the rest of the first years. You might even be commuting to us from another city, and if that’s the case, we’ve got the perfect event(s) for you.
The two sessions we’ve got especially for you guys will help you make new friends and build connections with those who’re in the exact same position as you.
Plus, there’s no tickets needed for this event, just turn up.

Our walking tours have proven a success with you guys’ time and time again and they’re also the perfect way to make new friends, learn something new and get your steps in.
We’ve got two walking tours this year for you to come along to, both focusing on a different cultural aspect of our city.
The 1.5-hour tours are run by award-winning professional tour guides who really know their stuff.
The first tour (26 September) will focus on the vast history of Manchester, covering the city's past, present and future.
During the second tour you will learn about the history of the Suffragette movement and the many heroines who fought for the representation of women.
Manchester’s a wealth of history and culture, so if you fancy getting some exercise as well as getting your culture fix, then get your ticket booked in advance as places are limited.

As well as everything else in this article, we’ve got an event solely dedicated to you mature students.
Whether you’re a brand-new starter, or returning to us for further study, come along and meet other students exactly like you!
There’ll be free mocktails, as you Sip and Paint away during an evening of art, crafts and chatting
You also don’t need a ticket to get involved, just bring yourself and get stuck in.

If you’ve got little ones and still want the chance to meet other students and get involved in Welcome – don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.
We’ll be holding an afternoon of fun, crafts, games and even a DJ, the whole family will be guaranteed to have fun!
Whilst the event will have fun and engaging activities and games for the kids, it will provide you with the perfect opportunity to meet other students in the same position as you. So, get your ticket booked!
Just note that this event is only suitable for children up to the age of 10.

The definition of a relaxed night in. We’re hosting a movie night as part of our Welcome Week in our Main Hall and you’re invited.
There’ll be free popcorn and treats as we screen the movie for you, your friends and even your little ones. Subtitles will be shown throughout.
The bar will also be open if you fancy a drink – no worries if not though, this event is for everyone, no matter what kind of atmosphere you’re looking for.

Fancying a movie marathon? Get ready to sit back and relax at The Union’s very own Film Fest. With screenings throughout the day showing Shrek 2, Dune: Part Two, Hot Fuzz and The Cabin in the Woods, there’s something for everyone.
