Before you arrive at MMU

If you’re getting excited about arriving at MMU, here are a few things you can start thinking about before you arrive:

What to bring:

The residential team on campus have made a video with suggestions of what to pack, particularly if you’re moving into halls this September:

Get to know student accommodation:

Here are some more fab videos from the student accommodation team, helping you navigate life living in university halls. For more individual information about each accommodation, visit the university’s website.

Meeting new people:

Keep an eye out on our Instagram for interactive posts where you can meet people in the comments who are keen to get to know new faces, or some who may even be looking to join the same society/club as you.

If you’re an international student, we have a dedicated Facebook group where you can meet new people, share tips about living in the UK and find out about the latest events.

Keep up to date with what’s on this Welcome:

Finding out what events and activities are happening over Welcome Week is one of the most exciting moments when waiting to go to university. We have a full time tabled calendar of all things happening on campus in September, so have a look and see which ones you want to attend (be aware, some events are ticketed and are available to book now).

We also have a guide to which ticketed events occurring around the city are the best to buy:

Student Finance:

Make sure you remember to sign up for student finance if you are a student from the UK. Many students also open student bank accounts before starting university that include interest-free bank accounts. Many also include deals such as a free railcard or Amazon vouchers for textbooks (see our budgeting tips).

Getting a student bank account is a personal choice, if you are interested, read Martin Lewis’ guide to picking one. For advice on money management, budgeting and debt queries, please speak to our Advice team.
