Inclusion Ambassador

£14.05 per hour (holiday pay included)

This is a zero-hours contract designed to offer flexibility around your studies. Shift patterns typically comprise of 8 hours per week during term time.

Our Inclusion Ambassador role will involve assisting the Inclusion Manager at The Union to develop inclusive student communities and support a sense of belonging for students from marginalised communities, particularly addressing the ‘gaps’ and differences in experience.

Who are we? 

Located in the heart of Manchester, The Union is part business, part charity, part membership body. Operating independently from Manchester Metropolitan University, our aim is to support and represent each one of our student members. Each year our growing team of around 50 full time and up to 100 part time staff, work alongside elected student leaders to make change, improve lives and help fulfil student potential.

The Union is one of 550 students’ unions across the country. And we’re one of the most exciting - with over 38,000 student members and 100 student groups, a huge range of services and a bold strategy.

What's the job? 

We believe that all students should have the opportunity to thrive during their time at university. However, some students are more likely to face barriers that make this more challenging. We are committed to identifying and dismantling these barriers to involvement with all the university has to offer, promoting the wellbeing and inclusion of all students.

Main activities / tasks

  • Supporting the Inclusion Manager with delivering a variety of events and campaigns aimed at enhancing student experience for marginalised communities at Manchester Met
  • Directly engaging with students, gathering insight and feedback data to inform our activity and to amplify student voice
  • Building relationships with students and staff members to identify the challenges faced by students from marginalised communities
  • Working closely with faculties, to understand the aims and goals of each faculty and how the Inclusion Ambassador program can support
  • Communicating about the projects goals, inclusion and equity in varied manners (e.g. social media, website, in person)
  • Attending regular group meetings to track the progress of the project.

Qualifications

  • You must be a student of Manchester Metropolitan University for the 2025/2026 academic year

 


 

Experience

  • Direct lived experience and an understanding of the barriers and challenges facing marginalised communities – particularly racial, ethnic, disability
  • Appreciation of the differing needs of different student groups
  • Related experience of designing and delivering engaging events and activities for students or other groups

 


 

Knowledge and skills

  • A current MMU student, with a good knowledge of issues affecting students at Manchester Met and passionate about making positive change on campus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with confidence in speaking to large groups of people
  • Creative and inventive when engaging communities; for example, comfortable presenting, skilled in multimedia (media editing), social media and/or event creation

  • Enthusiastic and approachable, able to engage others in sensitive topics with tact, diplomacy and positivity
  • Ability to listen well, empower and motivate others
  • Passionate about working with marginalised communities, promoting student success and equality across the University
