Our statement on the conflict in Palestine and Israel

Friday 16-02-2024 - 11:22

We are deeply distressed by the escalating violence and devastating loss of thousands of innocent lives in Israel and Palestine.

Many of our students are closely linked to the crisis by race, friendships, ethnicity, faith, or humanity. We are committed to supporting every member of our community who is affected by the conflict.

Individual students can seek support from The Union’s Advice Centre to understand their options around study or for referral to other University support services.

Student groups can seek guidance from the Opportunities team to ensure their activity to support fundraising or education around the conflict remain safe and secure.

We acknowledge that there are widely differing opinions in our community and urge all students to remember the real human tragedies arising from this conflict and commit to sensitivity and respect when expressing views.

Please keep our campus and student communities safe and demonstrably against violence.

If you or someone you know are concerned about safety, or have experienced hate or intimidation, we urge you to report it using the University’s Report + Support service. We also encourage you to use the SafeZone App to stay safe on campus.
