Tuesday 14-04-2026 - 14:57

Over the past quarter, your feedback has given us a clear picture of what student life really looks like right now. The results highlight key challenges around mental health, money and commuting and most importantly show where action is needed.

What you told us

Your responses revealed some interesting insights:

19% of students rate their mental health as poor or very poor, showing just how important wellbeing support continues to be.

62% of you plan to use a part-time job to finance this year, highlighting the growing impact of cost-of-living pressures.

15% feel uncomfortable discussing money troubles, reinforcing the need for more open, accessible financial support.

1 in 3 students find their commute stressful, with 20% saying safety is a key factor in how they travel.

You said, we did

Mental health and wellbeing

With nearly 1 in 5 students struggling with their mental health, this remains a key priority.

  • Following your feedback, our Wellbeing Officer has continued to advocate for men’s mental health, including the launch of the first MMU Lads Club.
  • We’re also working with the University to refresh the Manchester Met Mental Health & Wellbeing Strategy, using your feedback to help create a more supportive environment for all students.

Financial support

With 62% of students relying on part-time work and some feeling unable to talk about money, financial support is more important than ever.

  • The Manchester Met Success Fund has launched a non-repayable bursary scheme.
  • A review of the application process and platform is planned to improve accessibility.
  • In response to demand, our Advice Centre will be releasing a budgeting template earlier than usual to help you plan.

Travel and transport

With 1 in 3 students experiencing a stressful commute, your feedback is driving conversations beyond the University.

  • Insights from the travel survey have been shared with Transport for Greater Manchester.
  • Ongoing discussions, including with Mayor Andy Burnham, are focused on improving student tram affordability.

Getting Involved

Your feedback is what makes change possible. New interactive activities continue to shape The Union and University priorities, and polls are giving students more opportunities to influence decisions that directly affect their experience.

Rewards

Your contributions don’t just shape this change; they are also recognised too. Each month, active members are entered into prize draws, with exciting vouchers worth up to £100 available. Recent winners have been announced as part of this quarter’s results.

These results are more than just numbers; they represent real experiences across our student community. By continuing to share your feedback, you’re helping drive meaningful change where it matters most.
